Ramona and Beezus Casting

At the age of ten, Joey King was selected from a nationwide casting call to star as rambunctious Ramona Quimby. For Ramona's older sister Beezus, Fox executives recognized the need "to get young girls all the way up into their teens excited" about the film by way of casting an actress with a large tween following. Producers wanted the then-largely unknown Selena Gomez, but CEO Thomas Rothman wanted to hire well-known teen star Miley Cyrus to ensure the film's success. However, Cyrus requested $5 million dollars for the project and negotiations fell through. Gomez's own star-power, meanwhile, was quickly rising and executives managed to strike a deal before her price neared Cyrus's. After being assured by the marketing team that the film would be able to attract its target audience—6 to 12 year old girls—Rothman agreed. According to Variety magazine, hiring Gomez proved fortuitous for the family film in light of Cyrus's "current wild-child antics".John Corbett and Bridget Moynahan have been cast as the girls' parents; Ginnifer Goodwin will portray their Aunt Bea while Josh Duhamel will play their Uncle Hobart. Hutch Dano will play Henry Huggins.
