The release date of Rise of the Apes is set for June 24, 2011.The movie Rise of the Apes will be directed by Rupert Wyatt and written by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa. The movie will be starring James Franco as a scientist and will rely heavily on CGI apes: Peter Jackson's WETA (the company behind the special effects in the Lord of the Rings trilogy) will employ certain of the groundbreaking technologies developed for "Avatar" to render, for the first time ever in the film series, photo-realistic apes rather than costumed actors.

"Set in present day San Francisco, the film will follow a scientist (James Franco) working on a cure for Alzheimer's and his test ape, Caesar. The experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy."
